Chapter 9:


Isabel was not in a happy mood; Dominic had yet to give her a straight answer on why he saved her when all he did was complain about her presence.

“Because I owe someone a life debt, and saving you repays it, blah, blah, blah,” Isabel gritted her teeth, All Mother the Prince was annoying…though not as annoying as her current attire.

In her haste to leave the cryptic Prince, Isabel marched out of his room in her consort attire, having not changed for her morning duties. She did however regret it when one of the Fire Demon guards caught sight of her. His eyes said all she needed to know before she quickly walked past him and down the hall.

Oh, she should have listened to Dominic and his constant warning about being taken by a guard if she wasn’t careful.

Isabel picked up her pace, opening a large door and rushing through the opening.

Princess Sophie kneeled in her garden, planting fresh flowers wearing a robe far too large for her small frame. They were her brother’s favorite; the All Mother’s Stars or as the humans called them Forget-Me-Nots. While she wasn’t an Earth Demon the young royal had a green thumb. She would spend her time in the garden away from her parents fighting. She couldn’t understand how her father could spend so much time in the company of other women and not her mother.

She shook her head; there was no need for those thoughts.

The young Demon continued to plant before the door of the garden opened, she watched as a guard looked around for something. When his eyes met hers, panic filled his being. No one was allowed interrupt the Royal family. He left quickly in hopes pain would not befall on him.

Odd, Sophie thought before turning back to her flowers, a small smile on her face. Her peace was once again shattered when Isabel came out from a bush and sat at a small pond in the garden with a let out a sigh. Sophie looked at her in curiosity for a moment before standing. She fixed the robe before walking to Isabel.

“You’re that Demon Abraham made Dominic save!” Sophie exclaimed when she saw the pendant around Isabel’s neck.

Isabel jerked back her hand flying to her heart. It took her several moments to speak, “yeah, I suppose I'm that Demon...” Who was this girl?

“I'm Sophie! Dommie’s little sister!” She offered her hand, “You must be special if Abraham was willing to risk talking to Dommie to save you. Dommie didn't want to at first but gave in after a while, but don't tell Daddy, we're not allowed to talk to Abraham.”

The Water Demon took the offered hand awkwardly, “I’m Isabel, you have my word I won’t tell a soul. Though I suppose Abraham is the one Dominic has a life Debt for?”

“Yep, Abraham was mine and Dommie's teacher a while ago. We go into a bit if some trouble one day and Abraham saved us, but Dommie took my life debt as his own though.”

“That’s nice of him.”

“Dommie’s a big softy!” she suddenly lowers her voice, “Though I think Dommie is secretly helping the Liberation.”

“I don’t think he would like you talking about this, plus he could be listening to us right now from a tree or something, the creep.”

Sophie giggled tapping her nose, “No silly! Dommie’s not a creep, pulse he’s only just at the door!”

Isabel looked at her in confusion; she couldn’t know he was at the door-

“Get out of my sight!” Dominic shouted at the same guard that had been chasing Isabel as he opened the garden door. He knew the guard was waiting for someone and his guess was confirmed when he saw Isabel.

“Dommie!” Sophie shouted excitedly, jumping up and running to his arms.

“Sophie you found her before I could ask you to find her.”

“Always a step ahead!”

“Indeed you are.”

Isabel watched them in shock, Dominic was smiling. Actually smiling and not an emotionless mask he always wore. He looked handsome…
